Kanchanjunga (8,598m), the third highest peak in the world, magnificently stands between eastern Nepal and northwestern Sikkim state of India. Until very recently this was a restricted area, so this is an ideal trek for those who already know Nepal and want to get away from the better known areas and want to trek the off the beaten tracks in a remote part of the country where few foreigners have visited. The region was opened to trekkers in 1988, though people have trekked in the area in association with mountain climbing expeditions for only a few decades. Trekking towards the peaks of Jannu and Khabru, the great wall of Kumbakarna, Kanchanjunga and Rathong, you will experience some of the finest high mountain scenery in the world. Kanchanjunga is far away from Kathmandu, the nearest road and the airports are a long way from the mountains. Therefore, camping trek with experienced guides, equipment and supplies are a must.

Our trek takes you through beautifully terraced fields, sparsely populated villages and scenic forest-covered hills below the towering snowcapped mountains. Here, you can see a unique range of ethnic cultures, floras and faunas. The indigenous Rai and Limbu people of eastern Nepal have distinctive weaving, attire and jewelry. They practice the older religion of Shamanism. Other highland inhabitants of the region are Buddhist, as is most of Nepal. Here, the Sherpa and Tibetan ethnic groups have intermingled and have inhabited these highlands for centuries. The middle and lower foothills are inhabited by Bahun, Chhtri, Newar, Gurung, Kami, Domai and Sarki ethnic groups.

We fly from Kathmandu to Biratnagar and transfer to Basantapur trailhead. Our trek begins with our first camp at Sindua and then hike through Chirwa and climb to higher camp at Pang Pema (5120m) and descend via Mirgin La (pass). The trek ends at Suketar and flight back to Kathmandu via Biratnagar.
